All the staff and I at One Nation Childcare would like to wish you a happy Ramadan! It has been a beautiful, bright month so far as spring has started and the children have fully embraced the changes we are experiencing within the environment.

As part of our child-led learning, the children get to choose what they would like to do in nursery. Making playdough together to practice our fine-motor skills, completing different kinds of puzzles, building water pipe systems to challenge our critical thinking and making expressive arts paintings with stencils were just some of the few activities the children chose.

It’s finally spring and although it doesn’t completely feel like it yet, the children have noticed flowers growing around their local areas. Therefore, we decided to make flowers, focusing on key vocabulary such as ‘petals, stem, leaf’ as the children are confidently immersing a language-rich environment. The children then drew their own version of flowers and had fun in our messy play area, as they had the opportunity to use their imagination to role-play gardening skills.

As we embrace an Islamic Ethos, we ended the term by learning about Ramadan. Cutting and sticking is one of our children’s favourite expressive arts and design activities, so they used these skills to create lanterns and other Ramadan decorations. We have been looking at prepositional language in our Ramadan story ‘Musa and the Ramadan Moon.’ To aid the children in Understanding the World, we created a mosque which the children painted and used for role-play.

One Nation Childcare will also be closed on Friday 21st April 2023 so our staff and children can prepare for and celebrate Eid with their families and friends.
